Monotypes

I must have watched my father create "paintings" by pressing paper into little paintings on glass, as I have long been fascinated with print processes but particularly monotypes—something that cannot be repeated exactly. I use gelli plates, paint or ink on glass or acrylic sheets, even paint scratched into sheets of wax paper. Sometimes a monotype appears from an accident—like finding a splash of paint that has gone astray, waiting for me to quickly push a sheet of art paper into it. My work with mixed media also spills over into my monoprinting, as I sometimes add additional paint on top of the pulled print. Usually I use a watercolor or similar paper, although I have also experimented with clear and transluscent sheets of Duralar, Yuppo and other surfaces.
